Configure the Network Path Preference in Word (All Windows) Category: Home > Software > Microsoft Office > Word
This setting allows you to configure Microsoft Word to retain file path information when you work with files on a network server, either as a mapped drive (Z:\Folder_Name\File_Name) or as Universal Naming Convention (\\Share_Name\File_Name).
Open your registry and find or create the key below.
Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, called "VolumePref" and set it according to the value data below.
- 0 - Use the drive letter or UNC as typed (default)
- 1 - Convert UNC to drive letter if a drive is mapped
- 2 - Convert the drive letter to UNC
Restart Word for the change to take effect.
