Remove My Network Places from the Start Menu (Windows XP) Category: Home > Security > Start Menu and Taskbar
This restriction hides the My Network Places button on the Windows XP simple Start menu.
Open your registry and find the key below.
Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value called 'NoStartMenuNetworkPlaces' using the settings below.
Exit your registry, you may need to restart or log out of Windows for the change to take effect.
